🎯 Service Scope: Test-Program-Level V&V Planning

What this service covers: V&V planning for test programs, subsystems, components, and equipment-level verification strategies. We create V&V plans and traceability matrices that align with industry standards (ARP4754A, DO-178C, DO-254).

What this service does NOT cover: Full aircraft certification V&V campaigns, certification authority interaction, or DER/DAR-level certification leadership. We support your V&V planning—your team (or your DER) owns certification submission.

Why Teams Struggle with V&V Planning

"Which requirements still need testing?"

No single source showing what's verified, what's validated, what's still pending

"How do we prove we tested everything?"

Auditors and review boards demand full traceability from requirement → test → evidence

"Why do we keep finding gaps at the last minute?"

Ad-hoc V&V approaches miss edge cases until CDR or worse, during integration

"We have tests, but no clear V&V strategy"

Test plans exist, but no master V&V plan tying them to requirements and compliance objectives

If your team is manually tracking V&V status in spreadsheets—or worse, relying on tribal knowledge—you're one review away from program delays.

What You Receive

V&V Plan Document

Structured V&V strategy aligned with your test program and applicable standards

  • V&V strategy overview and approach
  • Verification methods by requirement type (Test, Analysis, Inspection, Demonstration)
  • Validation approach (operational scenarios and user acceptance)
  • V&V schedule and resource plan
  • Standards alignment roadmap (ARP4754A, DO-178C, DO-254)
  • V&V completion criteria and exit gates

Format: Word/PDF, 20-40 pages depending on scope

Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM)

Bidirectional traceability linking requirements to verification methods and test evidence

  • Requirement ID → Verification Method → Test Reference → Status
  • Parent requirements → derived requirements traceability
  • Gap analysis (requirements without assigned V&V methods)
  • Verification status tracking and completion percentage

Format: Excel (or DOORS/Jama if you use those tools)

Stakeholder Review Presentation

Presentation summarizing V&V approach for PDR/CDR/TRR readiness

Optional Add-Ons

V&V Gap Analysis Report

Detailed analysis of verification gaps with prioritized recommendations

Standards Compliance Checklist

ARP4754A, DO-178C, or DO-254 compliance mapping for your program

How It Works

1

Requirements Review

Review your existing requirements, identify gaps, ambiguities, and untestable requirements. Classify by verification method.

2

V&V Strategy Development

Map each requirement to appropriate V&V method. Define verification levels and identify test types needed.

3

Traceability Matrix Creation

Build bidirectional RTM linking requirements to tests. Define acceptance criteria and V&V status tracking.

4

Deliverables & Handoff

Deliver V&V Plan, RTM, and review presentation. Walk your team through the plan and answer questions.

Who This Is For

✓ Best Fit For:

  • Test programs needing structured V&V planning
  • Engineering teams preparing for PDR/CDR milestones
  • Programs with scattered requirements and no clear V&V approach
  • Teams needing requirements traceability for audits or reviews
  • Subsystem or component-level V&V planning
  • Programs transitioning from prototype to structured verification

✗ Not a Fit For:

  • Programs with mature V&V processes already in place
  • Teams looking only for test execution support
  • Full aircraft certification campaign leadership (DER/DAR role)
  • Certification authority interaction or submission

4-6 Weeks

Typical engagement duration, depending on requirements volume and project complexity

What Affects Timeline:

  • Number of requirements to trace (50 vs. 500 requirements)
  • Number of applicable standards (single standard vs. multi-standard compliance)
  • Existing documentation maturity (clean requirements vs. scattered tribal knowledge)
  • Subsystem complexity (simple component vs. multi-level system)

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this full aircraft certification V&V planning?

No. This service focuses on test-program-level V&V planning for subsystems, components, and equipment. We create V&V plans and traceability matrices that align with industry standards, but we do not lead full aircraft certification campaigns or act as certification authority. Your team (or your DER/DAR) owns certification submission.

Will you interact with certification authorities (FAA/EASA)?

No. We do not interact with certification authorities or represent your program in certification activities. We create the V&V documentation and traceability that supports your certification efforts, but final submission and authority interaction is handled by your team or designated representatives (DER/DAR).

Can we use these deliverables for certification?

Our deliverables are structured using industry-standard formats compatible with certification workflows (ARP4754A, DO-178C, DO-254). The V&V plans and traceability matrices support compliance demonstration. However, final certification submission requires review and approval by your Designated Engineering Representative (DER) or other authorized personnel.

Do you work with requirements management tools like DOORS or Jama?

Yes. We can deliver the RTM in Excel format or work within your existing DOORS/Jama environment if you already use those tools. We do not provide DOORS/Jama administration or tool configuration—we focus on the V&V content.

What if our requirements aren't documented yet?

Requirements are a prerequisite for V&V planning. If you need help documenting requirements first, we can add a Requirements Elicitation phase before starting the V&V planning work. Alternatively, consider our Test Program Development service which includes requirements review as part of the workflow.

Do you provide ongoing support after delivery?

The base engagement includes one round of revisions after stakeholder review. Ongoing support (monthly updates to RTM, V&V status tracking, additional review sessions) is available as a follow-on service.

Which standards do you support?

We primarily work with ARP4754A (systems), DO-178C (software), and DO-254 (hardware) for aerospace programs. These are the applicable standards for our civil aviation and eVTOL work. We do not work with MIL-STD-810H or NASA-STD-7009A.
