V&V Planning Built for the Test Program — Not the Certification Submission

Requirements development, traceability structures, and verification matrices that give your engineering team a clear path from "what does the system need to do" to "here's how we proved it."

Most V&V Plans Are Either Too Vague or Too Late

Requirements work that lived as engineering tribal knowledge becomes a problem the first time a design review board asks "where is this verified?" — and the answer is a folder search.

"Requirements are scattered across emails, slides, and someone's notebook."

"We don't have a traceability story for our design review."

"We need to assign verification methods but don't know how to do it consistently."

What You Receive

A working V&V plan and traceability backbone your engineering team can actually use — and your design review board can actually defend.

1

Requirements Development & Management

A working requirements set — written, organized, and maintainable. Includes requirement attribute schema, identifier conventions, change control structure, and a workflow your engineering team can actually follow.

2

Verification Matrix (RVM) & Method Assignment

A complete RVM mapping every requirement to verification method (Inspection / Analysis / Demonstration / Test), verification artifact, and closure status. Method assignment is documented with rationale so reviewers can follow the logic.

3

Traceability Architecture

Top-down and bottom-up traceability between system requirements, subsystem requirements, design artifacts, and verification evidence. Built so it survives a design review walkthrough.

4

V-Model Lifecycle Planning

V-model mapping for your program: where each verification activity lives, what evidence it produces, and how it ties back to the originating requirement. Aligned with ARP4754 A/B structure.

5

System Integration Test Planning

Integration test definition at the system level — what gets tested together, in what sequence, and what evidence each integration step produces. Feeds directly into the test program.

6

Design Review Support (PDR / CDR / TRR)

Review preparation: traceability walkthrough, evidence pack assembly, and reviewer-ready supporting documentation. Built so the review is a conversation, not a discovery exercise.

Common Engagement Patterns

Most V&V Planning engagements fall into one of three patterns:

Startup V&V Buildout

No existing requirements structure, no RVM, no traceability story. We build the V&V backbone from zero — schema, conventions, requirements set, verification matrix, and traceability — sized to the program's actual stage.

Requirements Restructure

Requirements exist but are scattered across emails, slides, and side documents. We restructure into a single working set with consistent attributes, identifiers, and traceability — rather than rewriting from scratch.

Design Review Preparation

Targeted engagement before PDR, CDR, or TRR. Traceability walkthrough, evidence pack assembly, and gap analysis against entrance criteria. Built so the review board doesn't find what your team didn't.

What This Does Not Cover

Safety assessments (FHA / PSSA / SSA). ARP4761/A safety assessment work should be led by a safety engineer with deeper specialization. We can support inputs and traceability structure; we do not lead the assessment itself.
DER coordination and FAA interface. We develop the V&V plan and structure. Certification strategy and regulatory authority interface should be led by your DER or certification team.
Requirements management tool implementation (DOORS, Jama). We structure the requirements set and traceability schema. Tool-specific implementation, scripting, and admin work is best handled by a tool specialist.
Formal ARP4754 A/B compliance claims. We work in V-model and ARP4754 A/B-aligned structures. Formal compliance claims for certification submission should be backed by a senior systems engineer with that specific track record.

Our Process

Four phases from discovery through design review readiness.

1

Discovery

Review existing requirements, design artifacts, and program stage. Identify what exists, what's missing, and what the next design review actually requires.

2

Requirements Structure

Requirement attribute schema, identifier conventions, and document or tool structure. Output: a working requirements baseline.

3

Matrix & Traceability

RVM construction, verification method assignment with documented rationale, and bidirectional traceability across requirement levels.

4

Design Review Support

Walkthrough preparation, evidence pack assembly, and reviewer-ready documentation aligned to the next review's entrance criteria.

Why Solrise Engineering for V&V Planning

What separates a V&V plan that lives on a shelf from one your team actually uses.

Built From Scratch for Real Programs

Solrise Engineering has stood up requirements and V&V structures for programs that had none — including next-generation eVTOL programs with no existing baseline to import. When the answer to "where do we start?" is not "from your existing system," experience matters.

V&V for the Test Program

We focus on making the verification plan executable for your test engineering team. Your DER and certification team handle the regulatory framing — and we structure the V&V plan so their job is easier, not harder.

Honest About ARP4754 A/B Boundaries

ARP4754 A/B-aligned, V-model structured, traceability complete. We don't claim "ARP4754 A/B compliant" because compliance is a certification claim that requires depth we don't oversell.

Engagement Structure

V&V Planning engagements are scoped individually based on program stage, requirement set maturity, and design review timing. Engagements range from focused contributions (RVM construction only, design review preparation only) to full V&V buildout for an early-stage program.

Remote with milestone working sessions. Engagement structure — fixed-scope, time-and-materials, or milestone-based — is defined during the discovery phase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you help with safety assessments (FHA, PSSA, SSA)?

We can support inputs and traceability structure. We do not lead the safety assessment itself — that should be a dedicated safety engineer with ARP4761/A specialization.

Do you implement requirements in DOORS or Jama?

We can structure the requirements set and traceability schema. Tool-specific implementation and scripting is best handled by a DOORS or Jama specialist.

Will the V&V plan we get be ARP4754 A/B compliant?

It will be ARP4754 A/B-aligned and V-model structured. Formal compliance claims for certification submission should be reviewed by a senior systems engineer with certification-leadership track record.

How does this connect to your other services?

V&V planning is upstream of Ground Test Campaign Leadership. The verification matrix we build feeds the test matrix, which feeds the test procedures, which feeds the campaign data and the final report.

We already have requirements but they're a mess. Can you fix them?

Yes. Many engagements start with an existing-but-disorganized requirement set. We restructure rather than rewrite where possible.
