The Right Measurement Architecture Makes or Breaks Your Test Campaign

From sensor selection to Dewesoft configuration to post-test data delivery — Solrise Engineering designs instrumentation systems that capture the data your program actually needs, with measurement accuracy you can defend in a design review.

When the Measurement System Isn't Engineered

Instrumentation is the part of a test program that nobody plans carefully enough until the campaign is already running and the data starts coming in wrong.

"We're not sure which sensors we need or where to put them."

"Our DAQ setup was ad-hoc and we're getting noise and dropouts."

"We have data but can't tell if the measurements are accurate."

What You Receive

End-to-end measurement system design: what to measure, how to measure it, how to capture it, and how to deliver it.

1

Instrumentation Plan

Sensor types, locations, measurement ranges, accuracy requirements, and channel count. Built from the test matrix backwards — every channel exists because a test point needs it.

2

DAQ System Architecture

Dewesoft hardware configuration: chassis selection, module specification, sampling rates, channel mapping, network topology, and cable/connector specification. Built for the actual measurement requirements, not generic platforms.

3

Signal Conditioning Design

Amplifier gain settings, anti-aliasing filtering, isolation strategy, and a grounding and shielding plan tailored to the actual noise sources in your facility — not a copy-paste from a textbook.

4

Sensor Calibration Procedures

Calibration methods, intervals, and acceptance criteria across the sensors used in your program. Includes pre-campaign measurement chain verification, and end-of-campaign or interim checks scaled to campaign duration, data criticality, and any anomalies observed. NIST-traceable calibration of reference standards is coordinated with an accredited calibration lab.

5

Real-Time Monitoring & Operator Views

Display layouts, alarm thresholds, and role-based operator views designed for the actual roles in your test operations room. Test conductor sees the campaign-level picture; instrumentation operator sees signal health; safety operator sees the limits.

6

Post-Processing Templates

Dewesoft analysis files, data export formats, and standard analysis routines you can re-run across the campaign without rebuilding them every time.

Platform & Sensor Expertise

Direct hands-on integration depth across the platforms and sensor types we actually use.

Primary Platform

Dewesoft

4+ years across the full stack: hardware selection, configuration, data acquisition, real-time monitoring, post-processing, and reporting. This is where we have the deepest expertise.

Familiar Platforms

LabVIEW, HBM, National Instruments

Can integrate with and operate where required. Not our primary platform — if Dewesoft is an option, that's what we'll recommend.

Sensor Coverage

Direct Integration Experience

  • Thermocouples
  • RTDs
  • Strain gauges
  • Pressure transducers
  • Accelerometers
  • Load cells
  • LVDT and RVDT (linear and rotary displacement)
  • Laser / optical displacement sensors
  • Flow meters
  • Voltage and current sensors
  • RPM and tachometer sensors

What This Does Not Cover

Equipment provisioning and supply. We design and configure measurement systems on equipment your team or your vendor provides. Solrise Engineering does not own, lease, or supply Dewesoft hardware, sensors, signal conditioners, cabling, or any other test equipment.
Custom DAQ software development. LabVIEW VI programming, custom GUI development, and proprietary acquisition software are not in scope.
dSPACE control system programming. We can implement and operate dSPACE configurations. We do not develop dSPACE control models.
Sensor manufacturing or calibration lab operation. We design the calibration procedures and acceptance criteria. Accredited calibration lab work is sourced to specialists.

Our Process

Four phases from measurement requirements through campaign support.

1

Measurement Requirements

Review test matrix and program goals. Identify what must be measured, with what accuracy, at what rate, and under what conditions.

2

Architecture & Sensor Plan

DAQ architecture, sensor selection, signal conditioning design, and channel mapping. Reviewed with your engineering team before procurement starts.

3

Configuration & Build Support

Dewesoft configuration, calibration plan execution, integration with your test infrastructure, and pre-campaign verification.

4

Campaign Support

On-site or remote support during data acquisition, troubleshooting noise or dropout issues, and adjusting configuration as the campaign progresses.

Why Solrise Engineering for Instrumentation & DAQ

Where measurement architecture stops being a checklist and starts being engineering.

Specialist Depth in a Specialist Domain

Aerospace instrumentation isn't a generalist's job. Solrise Engineering has designed and run 100+ channel Dewesoft campaigns on electric propulsion programs where the data had to survive review.

Architecture, Not Just Channel Count

The question isn't how many channels — it's whether the right phenomenon is captured at the right rate with the right accuracy and the right reference. We start from the test point and design backwards.

Calibration as a Deliverable

Calibration plans, acceptance criteria, and pre/post-campaign verification procedures are built into the engagement — not "we'll figure that out later."

Engagement Structure

Instrumentation and DAQ engagements are scoped individually based on system size, platform, and program stage. Engagements range from standalone instrumentation planning, to full DAQ system design and configuration, to targeted troubleshooting of an existing setup.

Remote with on-site visits for integration and pre-campaign verification. Engagement structure — fixed-scope, time-and-materials, or milestone-based — is defined during the discovery phase.

Frequently Asked Questions

We already have a DAQ system — can you help with just instrumentation?

Yes. Instrumentation planning and sensor selection can be scoped as a standalone engagement, even if the DAQ platform is already chosen.

We have to use LabVIEW, NI, or HBM. Will you still work with us?

Yes — we can integrate with and operate these platforms. Our primary expertise is Dewesoft, so the engagement structure may shift toward integration support rather than full-stack design.

Do you handle calibration in-house?

We design the calibration procedures, intervals, and acceptance criteria. Accredited calibration of standards is sourced to a calibration lab — we coordinate that workflow but do not operate one.

Can you help us debug noise problems on an existing setup?

Yes. Targeted troubleshooting engagements are common — typically a short on-site visit followed by a remediation plan.

How does this service connect to your other offerings?

Instrumentation and DAQ design is typically part of either a Test Infrastructure & Lab Design engagement (designing the lab from scratch) or a Ground Test Campaign engagement (running a campaign on existing infrastructure). It can also be scoped standalone.

Get the Measurement System Right Before the Campaign Starts

Instrumentation problems caught in design are far less expensive than instrumentation problems caught during a test campaign. A 30-minute consultation will tell us if Solrise Engineering is the right fit.
